我国古代金银器以其材质贵重、纹饰华美、工艺精湛、兼有异域特色与民族风格而颇为各时代、各阶层所珍爱。
      镇江博物馆珍藏有金银饰物、货币、器皿等精品，基本出土于本地区墓葬或窖藏，时代起自汉、六朝，降至明、清。尤以唐、宋、元为大宗，其制作工艺和艺术风格代表了当时金银细工的水平和总体特色，体现本地区古代金银工艺发展的辉煌历程。

Ancient gold and silver were prized by all classes of the society through the ages for their high value, exquisite motif, fine craftsmanship, and with both exotic flavors as well as national styles.

The ancient gold and silver collected by the Zhenjiang Museum consists of jewelries, money, and vessels. Almost all of them were found from the local excavations and vaults, dated from Han dynasty / Six dynasties until through Ming / Qing dynasties. Most of the works were made in Tang, Song and Yuan dynasties, the craftsmanship and artistic style of which represented the general level and characteristic of the gold and silver works at that time, and honestly recorded the splendid progress of the local metal works
