The bronze age in China consists of Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, during which the bronze casting method was invented and renowned in the world as an outstanding achievement contributed by the Chinese people to the human civilization.

Bronzes of the Wu Kingdom feature a typical local style. Their shape, motif, proportion of alloy as well as casting method, not only assimilated those of central plains but also reflected local characteristics. Therefore, the Wu bronzes are deemed as an indispensable segment of Chinese ancient bronzes.
